Research
Research into legislation protecting animals highlights critical gaps in both the written laws and their enforcement, particularly in industries such as animal breeding, transport and slaughter.
While many countries have regulations aimed at ensuring humane treatment, these often lack clarity, leaving room for interpretation that can undermine their effectiveness. Shortcomings are evident not only in enforcement but also in the capacity of the governmental services responsible for supervision.
These public institutions often lack the capacity to conduct the inspections necessary to ensure compliance. As a result, numerous infractions go unnoticed and unregistered, allowing companies to operate with limited accountability.
One outcome of this research is the ability to comprehensively understand the current scenario and landscape, identify how we can effectively proceed, and propose actionable steps. These steps include collaborating directly with the services to enhance animal welfare standards, increase the frequency and quality of inspections, and ensure the closure of non-compliant companies. This holistic approach aims to bridge the gaps between legislation, policies, enforcement, and industry practices for meaningful and lasting change.
